OHS Law – Due Diligence Copy

Introduction to Due Diligence

The principal reason for developing, implementing, monitoring and auditing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) is to prevent workplace incidents that can result in illnesses and injuries your employees. Additionally an OHSM Systems will reduce equipment downtime and property & equipment damage resulting in lost productivity.

  • When building an OHSMS we must understand what OHS Legislation is applicable to our workplace activities and build compliance into our Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and our Safe Work Practices (SWPs).
  • Failure to do so may result in an organization and/or individuals being charged under the Criminal and/or Labour Codes as discussed in Module 1 “OHS Law – Canadian Criminal and Labour Codes”.
  • Doing so – will provide you with your due diligence defense.
